Behind The Sleepy Artisan is mixed media artist, Julianne Davidson. Julianne combines her artistic & technical skills to produce one of a kind journals that are a unique alternative to mass produced products. Each book is carefully hand crafted, incorporating mixed media art techniques with traditional bookbinding methods. Quality materials, meticulous workmanship, and attention to detail are all traits that customers can appreciate from her work.
“I combine mixed media art into each book, with pages hand painted, dyed, decoupaged and printed traditionally with carved wooden blocks. They are then traditionally hand bound with waxed irish linen thread. It takes an average of 15 stages to complete each book. The entire process is very labour and time intensive but I pride myself on the fact that each of my book is a labour of love compared to those mass manufactured in factory lines.
Each piece I create, I love so much, that it breaks my heart to see it go. However, it still gives me pleasure in giving it to my customers knowing they will love the creation just as much, if not more. I love doing this. I am humbled by the support of people who love and enjoy my work and can make them part of “their own” story. I strive to work not only to the highest technical standards of the craft, but also to show artistry and originality in my designs.“
